Wednesday: Houston 5, Lincoln 4.

What went wrong: Houston took his first lead of the series with a three-run blast from No. 9 batter Yeiler Peguero in the top of the second inning at Haymarket Park.

Lincoln tied it 3-3 in the lower half of the inning, but the Apollos struck again in the fourth at an RBI from Breland Almadova. Daniel Aldrich cushioned the lead to 5-3 with a solo home run in seventh place and gave Houston’s No. 7, 8 and 9 hitters all five RBIs.

Lincoln had the chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with Skyler Weber at the plate and bases loaded after a David Vidal bases-loaded walk that made it 5-4. Weber swung a pitch in the dirt on a 3-1 counter that kept the bat alive before flying into midfield.

Lincoln’s Josh Altmann reached third base with two outs in the bottom of 9th, but Ryan Long flew to left field to end the game. Lincoln left 10 runners on the base.

What went right: The Saltdogs fought their way back in the second inning with three runs and four hits. Vidal and Weber started the lower half of the inning with singles before Edgar Corino left to load the bases. Patrick Adams hit an RBI single, and Weber hit in doubles. Forrestt Allday completed the scoring with an RBI single.
