Verses to Hold Onto

When you're an older adult who has lost a pet, the quiet and the emptiness can feel overwhelming. These verses are for you—to read when you need comfort, to write on a card and keep nearby, or to pray back to God when words are hard to find.

God Is Near

Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Psalm 147:3 - "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Hebrews 13:5 - "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

Strength for the Day

Isaiah 41:10 - "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with your righteous right hand."

Psalm 73:26 - "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Your Grief Matters to God

Psalm 56:8 - "You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book." (NLT)

Matthew 10:29 - "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care."

Comfort and Hope

Matthew 5:4 - "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

Revelation 21:4 - "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Romans 8:18 - "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

When You Feel Alone

Psalm 68:6 - "God sets the lonely in families."

Deuteronomy 31:8 - "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

A Simple Prayer

Lord, I miss my pet. My heart is heavy and my house feels empty. Thank You for being close to the brokenhearted. Hold me close. Give me strength for today and hope for tomorrow. In Jesus' name, Amen.
