BACK TO THE BULLDOGS: Greg Johnson scored on his return to Batley, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a loss to Toulouse. Image: Allan McKenzie / SWpix.com
The win was the French’s ninth in a row this season, with a 100 percent win rate and a superior point difference that keeps them ahead of the Featherstone Rovers in the standings.
Batley fought hard against the full-time team and was only four points behind at half-time before Toulouse ran away with the game in the second half.
Harrison Hansen opened the goal after three minutes, but Batley hit back when Greg Johnson marked his return to the club with a try in the ninth minute.
Adam Gledhill then gave Batley the lead when he drove into Toulouse defense to hit the post.
That was the Bulldogs’ final sign on the scoreboard, however, as Latrell Schaumkel and Justin Sangaré flanked before half-time to give the French the lead at break.
Junior Vaivai scored twice in four minutes of the second half to keep Batley out of the game before Mathieu Jussaume sealed the Toulouse win with eight minutes left.
Batley will be back in action on Thursday night when they face Dewsbury Rams in the Heavy Woolen Derby.
